This dataset consists in a series of statements given by the prison warden at the prison workhouse at Christianshavn (Copenhagen) in the late eighteenth century. The statements were given as a consequence of inmates petition for release and typically consists in an evaluation of their character and their stay. The data was collected and manually transcribed by Emilie Luther Valentin and stems from the letter books of the prison warden Johannes Öest.

The original data is held in Rigsarkivet (Copenhagen), Børnehuset på Christianshavn, Brevkopibog (1769-1824).
